Three carefree youngsters move into a retired Peking opera performer's home.Various conflicts explode between the rigid landlady and the tenants,revealing everyone's painful past.They learn to embrace and find strength in each other.On a trip to the countryside,a monk asks them to help rebuild a temple among ruins of the Schechuan earthquake. The work eventually inspires them to move on in life.
