Yakari

After a long winter, the tribe's provisions have completely run out. Everyone's hungry and impatient for the bison to return to the Great Plains... but they never arrive! All of the members of the tribe, including the papooses, head out to look for them.

A young, aptly-named raccoon known as "Clumsy" is such a walking disaster area that the other animals in the forest can no longer stand having him around. They want to chase him out of the forest for good.

Rainbow has to cook her first pemmican for a celebration and she has no cherries to make it the way certain food-lovers in the tribe like it.

Buffalo-Seed will do anything to earn a feather for bravery like Yakari's, and decides to reproduce a feat that Eyes-Always-Shot pulled off many years before, one that earned him the respect of the whole tribe: for three whole days and three whole nights, EyesAlways-Shot walked in search of a lost mountain goat and brought it back to the Sioux camp to save a hungry baby who needed its milk!

In the horses' enclosure, Yakari and his friends watch a foal being born. Rainbow decides to look after it, but then Yakari learns that the young mustang is going to be given to another tribe.

In the heat of summer, the river next to the Sioux camp suddenly and inexplicably dries up.

As usual, Droopy-Ear puts his nose where it doesn't belong and this time, he breaks the ceremonial peace pipe the shaman uses to ask the Great Spirit to bless the hunt. As his heart is pure, Yakari is the one the Elders chose to bring back a piece of traditional red stone (catlinite) from the sacred quarry to make a new bowl for the pipe.

Part of the beavers' dam has been washed away by a flood. They have to repair it quickly before the entrance to their underground burrows, where their provisions are stocked, is exposed.

Rainbow is taking part in the Summer Solstice race for the very first time. In spite of Yakari and Buffalo-Seed's encouragements, she passes her anxiety on to her horse GreatGrey, who goes to pieces.

While having fun sliding down a slope on a bison pelt, Yakari crashes into the backside of the terrifying Wolverine, who falls into a patch of allergy-inducing plants. Furious, the animal sets off after him, but he starts coughing and rubbing his nose, and his eyes are so sore that he fails to see a ravine, and falls right into it!

Many Mouths has taken a hit to the head and has lost his memory. He doesn't even know his own name!

Buffalo-Seed and Wild-Wind, a young papoose, are having an archery contest to see who's the best shot, but it's a tie. They decide to choose a winner by heading off on a grizzly bear hunt.

A mischievous little animal with a long tail, the ring-tailed cat, has come to disturb the serenity of the Sioux camp and has the firm intention of staying. In the wild animal's own interests, Yakari and Little-Thunder decide to take him back to the forest.

As he is throwing a tomahawk with Yakari and Buffalo-Seed, old Restful-Rock throws his back out! Only an ointment made of the "velvet" which grows on elk antlers can relieve his pain.

When Yakari releases a puma from a trap, he inadvertently robs Proud-Cloud of the prey he has been hunting for a long time and has gone to great lengths to catch. Furious and humiliated, the hunter goes to the tribal council and demands that Yakari help him track the puma down again. Yakari accepts, but only so he can try and save the puma.

A new flock of crows has arrived close to the camp. They have been eating all the berries on the bushes and bothering the animals all around. Mic-Mac's way of life is threatened most of all.

Buffalo-Seed keeps boasting to the young papoose, Wild-Wind, about things he hasn't really done. Aspiring to be just as brave, the latter sets off to bring back a stone from the heart of the "Fire Giant", a giant tree (a sequoia), which burnt a long time ago.

A nice hot bath is exactly what Restful-Rock and Eyes-Always-Shot need to soothe their aching joints. Yakari and Little-Thunder accompany the two old Sioux as they head out to the hot springs.

The foal Dart-of-Fire can't wait to see the world and all its wonders. Yakari and LittleThunder decide to take him out on his first walk around the Grand Canyon, where they teach him some basic knowledge to prepare him for the future when he will set off on his own adventures.

Yakari dreams of a young puma with a white paw surrounded by wolves, and calling for help. He sets off into the forest with Little-Thunder who urges him to forget his dream, but soon starts seeing different elements from his dream around him, including the wolves and then the young puma, who has lost his way on their territory.

A wolverine has been prowling way too close to camp and has really scared the poor Slow-Strider. If Yakari doesn't do something about it, the hunters will take care of the problem.

Eyes-Always-Shot is so itchy that he can no longer sleep, and so Yakari sets off into the canyon to look for some special bitter roots to cure him. Along the way, he meets several animals who are all acting strange. What could be making them behave this way? After a visit from Great-Eagle, Yakari understands: there's going to be a solar eclipse!

Yakari and his friends wonder who will lead the tribe as they migrate south for the winter?

The papooses are playing a version of lacrosse when they see Wild-Bear sitting backwards on his horse. Puzzled, they ask Wise-One why he's acting so strange. The shaman explains that the warrior has become a "Heyoka", a contrary person who does the exact opposite of what he should be doing.

While he's racing through the trees with Yakari, the careless Flying-Squirrel starts clowning around, falls to the ground, and ends up hurting his paw so badly that he can no longer glide.
